Figaro suggests that the Count can get into the house disguised as a drunken soldier who will be billeted there. The doctor will not be able to turn him away, giving him access to Rosine. In Seville at the time there was a law that stated homes with rooms available must welcome in a military man in need if called upon so Figaro also comes up with a plan; in order to gain access to the house, Almaviva should don a second disguise, this time a drunk military man who needs a place to stay.

When Almaviva enters the room, Rosina instantly recognizes him as her suitor and the two begin their lesson. Update this section! New Production. During the shaving of the second client, several shots are presented in rapid succession, some lasting only one-fourth of a second. Once the marriage is officiated, Dr.

The Count hands Rosine a note surreptitiously whilst the doctor's back is turned. No sooner had he obtained your letter than he made it over to the Count, whose vanity used it as a trophy of conquest ; and at last it came into my hands from a lady, to whom he sacrificed it. He has brought the notary that Bartolo requested. Almaviva only had to whisper his identity to them before they complied with letting him go. The marriage contract requires two witnesses; Figaro is one, but another is needed.

The Barber of Seville Characters

Thus, have you observed a number of soldiers in the city? Initially, Bartolo is suspicious, but does allow Almaviva to enter when the Count gives him Rosina's letter. Meanwhile, poor Berta can barely keep her mind straight from all the confusion. He and Figaro witness the signatures to a marriage contract between the Count and Rosina.

Such a great experience. The scene returns to the location of Act 1 with a grill looking out onto the square. The longest descriptions run about words. Well, then, instruct me now ho,w I shall get admitted into the house.

The Count makes Basilio an offer he can't refuse: the choice of accepting a bribe and being a witness to his marriage or receiving two bullets in the head an easy choice, Basilio says.

He suspects that Rosine's attentions are diverting from him to another yet-unidentified suitor and is wondering if this seduction is being carried out by Figaro.

Culhane later called The Barber of Seville "one of my most satisfying achievements as a director". Don Basilio shows up looking much better but is quickly turned away when Almaviva bribes him to leave.

Hardaway would become Woody's sole speaking voice for the remainder of the decade. Bartolo's maid, answers the door to find Almaviva as the drunken soldier. Since Figaro used to be a servant of the Count, the Count asks him for assistance in helping him meet Rosina, offering him money should he be successful in arranging this.

The two men are well-acquainted and talk for a while. He also explains his plot to come between the lovers. Rosina believes him and agrees to marry him. In fear of the drunken man, Berta the housekeeper rushes to Bartolo for protection. Finale: "Fredda ed immobile, come una statua"; "Cold and still, just like a statue".

They hide as Bartolo comes out of the house, instructing his servants to keep the door locked and chuckling to himself about his plan to marry Rosina.

The Barber of Seville by Beaumarchais (Book Analysis)

He also explains that her opinion of him is based on lies and that it is in fact her guardian who intends to force her into a marriage she doesn't want. Rosina manages to slip away, with Bartolo in pursuit. Almaviva pretends to be too drunk and belligerent to understand, and dares Bartolo to brawl.

Bartolo comes in to see what the rumpus is about. Basilio leaves and Rosina arrives. Berta and Basilio enter as Rosina and the Count triumph over Bartolo. The men decide to tell everyone that the Count is a womanizer who cannot be trusted, and the doctor hopes that, should Rosine hear these negative stories, that she will not be interested in any kind of relationship with him.

As they do so Dr Bartholo, the owner of the house, and Rosine become visible through one of the upstairs windows. Lindoro, who is really the young Count Almaviva in disguise, hopes to make the beautiful Rosina love him for himself — not his money.
